University College London (UCL), founded in 1826, is the city's oldest university, and the largest of over 50 entities which make up the University of London. UCL was the first British institution to implement a systematic study of common law, and today is recognized as one of the best law schools in the United Kingdom. Centrally located in the attractive Bloomsbury district, UCL is within walking distance of the British Museum and Regent's Park. With convenient access to four of London's major underground lines, the campus is both a hub of bustling activity in itself, as well as a gateway to the many attractions of the city. The Royal Courts of Justice, the Central Criminal Court, and The Inns of Court are located nearby, creating a unique intellectual atmosphere for law students. The city of London offers countless additional experiences. One of the most cosmopolitan cities in the world, London is an ideal location for a semester abroad, and is easily accessible to other major European cities by train or plane. Students will take courses with UCL students pursuing their LL.M. degrees as well as American law students from other participating schools. The curriculum is focused on international and comparative law subjects. Courses offered in 2006 included International Trade Law, International Criminal Law, Comparative European Law, Comparative Human Rights Law, and International Environmental Law. Up to 7 Georgetown Law students will be approved to participate in the Semester in London program in fall 2007. Students will take either five or six courses. Students taking five courses will earn 12 credits; students taking 6 courses will earn 13 credits. In 2007, classes will begin October 1 and end December 14.
