Hangtags

Parking hang tags for full time faculty, and staff will be issued in June and for students in August. Adjunct faculty are issued a permit for the semester they will be conducting classes at the Law Center. Parking registration requires proof of status as a member of the Georgetown Law community. For drivers with disabilities additional documentation supporting their special needs is required. The hangtag must be displayed on the rearview mirror of the registered vehicle whenever the vehicle is parked on campus. The Law Center Parking Office issues a variety of permits with distinct privileges. Categories

Parking for those with special needs

Georgetown Law supports the provision of designated parking spaces for individuals with permanent or temporary mobility impairments. Students, faculty, and staff must obtain a Georgetown Law disabled parking permit in order to use parking spaces designated in the garage for this purpose. Staff or faculty with state issued plates documentation may register for this permit in the parking office. Students with special needs should meet with the Law Center 's Disability Coordinator (in the JD Programs Office) to receive authorization for this permit. Medical documentation may be required. Individuals who received this type of permit may elect payroll deduction or a pre-pay basis.

Special Events and Visitors

Special event parking and visitor parking requests are available only through Parking Services. Under certain circumstances, notably when school is not in session, parking may be available for special events. At such events non-Georgetown University affiliates may request parking on a space-available basis through the host department or the parking office. Tickets are sold at a pre-determined rate, and must be purchased in advance and submitted to the attendant upon entering the garage. Upcoming campus events, special meetings, conferences or seminars will be accommodated, based on availability. There are no guarantees that we will be able to meet all special event parking needs. Georgetown Law departments hosting visitors or special functions of 10 spaces or fewer require five business days' notice. Reservation of more than 10 spaces requires consultation with the Director of Facilities at least ten business days prior to the event. All requests must be done in writing with the following information:

1.   Visitor name & purpose of visit

2.   Vehicle description & license plate number

3.   Date & time of arrival and expected departure

When the visitor arrives at the parking entrance, the attendant, with prior approval documentation, will direct the visitor to the designated visitor parking spaces. They will also ask the visitor to sign a parking pass which must be displayed on the rear view mirror.

Visitor parking is not available for personal use by Law Center students or staff.

Vendors, contractors, temporary staff, or agents of commercial concerns doing business at the Law Center are not eligible for parking. The "G" street loading area is reserved for deliveries and service vehicles only while doing business of less than 20 minutes at the Law Center. Any other vehicles parked in the "G" Street loading area will be ticketed by the District of Columbia.

Safety

Registered parkers assume the obligation to follow the rules of safe driving and all the rules and guidelines listed in this policy. It is for the safety and convenience of all the members of the community that these rules apply. The Law Center assumes no responsibility for protection or damage to any motor vehicle or its contents on Law Center Property.

Clearance in the garage is limited with a drive aisle height of 6'3". Most trucks and vans are restricted from entering the garage.

In the event of a vehicular accident notify the Department of Public Safety (202-662-9325). Accidents involving bodily injury or property damage over $100 must be reported to the Metropolitan Police.

E Street Lot

Facilities and Security staff are eligible for the "E" Street parking lot. For safety reasons night shift staff working in the Facilities and Security departments are allowed parking on level P-2 of the McDonough garage. Eligible parkers must sign up for payroll deduction at the applicable rate.

Once assigned parking, he/she must fill out a Vehicle Registration card and obtain an "E Street" hangtag. The hangtag must be displayed on the rearview mirror of the registered vehicle whenever the vehicle is parked in the E Street Lot. At registration the employee's Georgetown identification card will also be programmed for access to the E Street lot. More than one vehicle may be registered or added to the registration card at any time; however, a hang tag represents a payroll deduction for only one vehicle and any circumvention of this intent will be deemed a violation of policy. Parking privileges are not transferable to any person other than the person who is registered to park. Registration will be updated and new hangtags will be issued at the beginning of July.

Overnight Parking

Anyone needing to park their vehicle overnight at the Law Center must receive prior approval from the Parking Office. Upon approval a temporary overnight pass will be issued. We ask that spaces in front of electrical closets, storage facilities or mechanical rooms not be be used for this purpose. If a vehicle is left overnight without prior approval a violation ticket may be issued.

Temporary Parking

Under certain circumstances it may become necessary to issue temporary parking passes. These passes are available at the parking office as approved by the Director of Facilities Management. Temporary parkers must register their cars at the parking office and are subject to all rules and regulations of the parking department.

Main Campus Reciprocal Parking

The Law Center and Main Campus maintain a reciprocal parking understanding. Current faculty and staff hang tag holders visiting Main Campus are entitled to park on Lot "T" without charge. Directions to Lot T: Enter from Canal Road and proceed past the Gym and power plant toward Yates. Lot T is on your right.

Main campus visitors with current stickers are entitled to park at the Law Center at no charge. Spaces are reserved on the P-2 level for this purpose.

Special Circumstances

In the event it is necessary to park an unregistered vehicle, such as a rental car, you must inform the parking office. A temporary permit will be issued or you may be instructed to use the appropriate hang tag.

While the garage is unattended during evenings, weekends, and holiday hours, the garage entrance door is closed and may be opened by inserting the Georgetown University identification card into the access card reader. Care should be exercised while entering or exiting the garage through the automatic door system. Only one vehicle should enter at a time and sufficient time should be allowed for the door to completely open. It is a violation of Law Center policy to allow unregistered vehicles access to the garage. Parking privileges are not transferable to any person other than the person who is registered to park.

Lost Hangtags

Lost hangtags may be replaced at the parking office. Anyone needing a replacement hangtag will be required to complete a hangtag replacement statement, and to pay a replacement fee of $10.
