Overview
The Public Interest Law Scholars (PILS) program provides financial, professional and academic support to law students dedicated to practicing law in the public interest. In addition to partial tuition scholarships, the program offers summer stipends through the Office of Public Interest and Community Service (OPICS). Scholars are matched with faculty advisors and attorney mentors who practice in their field of interest. This competitive program selects eight Public Interest Law Scholars from each class of admitted students.
PILS has been an integral part of the Law Center's public interest community since it began in 1988 and has over 220 alumni that work at public interest law firms, legal aid, international and domestic non-profit organizations, public defenders' offices, prosecutors' offices, federal and state governmental agencies, and as Congressional staff.
PILS provides many opportunities for current PILS to get to know each other, learn from prominent public interest attorneys, and connect with PILS alumni through mentoring relationships and special events.
