 Liz Watson, Executive Director

 

Biography

     Liz Watson is the Executive Director of the Georgetown Center on Poverty, Inequality and Public Policy. Liz’s work at the Poverty Center is focused on bringing together thought leaders to identify innovative policies, programs and practices designed to improve the lives of low-income people. Liz previously worked as legislative counsel for Workplace Flexibility 2010, a policy initiative at Georgetown Law School. In that capacity, Liz recently co-authored a new report analyzing the scheduling problems facing workers in low-wage jobs and identifying employer practice and policy solutions. Liz’s research and policy interests include improving job quality and opportunity for low-income people. Liz has developed a number of legislative and other public policy proposals aimed at improving various aspects of job quality.

     Previously, Liz was an employment attorney at Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe LLP where she represented corporate and pro bono clients on a range of labor and employment issues. Liz also worked as a Skadden Public Interest Law Fellow, focusing on litigation and policy advocacy on behalf of low-wage workers and welfare recipients, and in particular, on improving welfare recipients’ access to education and training opportunities.

     Liz received her B.A. from Carleton College and her J.D. with honors from Georgetown University Law Center, where she was the recipient of the John F. Kennedy Labor Law Award. Liz was a judicial law clerk to the Honorable Susan Y. Illston, in the Northern District of California.
