Security Awareness Programs 2010 ruler

During the month of September, students and staff will be informed of services offered by Georgetown Law Public Safety. Slide presentations will outline ways to maintain personal safety and residence hall/campus security. Students will be told about crime on campus and in surrounding neighborhoods. Similar information will be presented to new employees. Crime Prevention Programs and Sexual Assault Prevention Programs will be offered on a continual basis. This fall, we are asking the First District of the Metropolitan Police Department to assist us with crime prevention presentations to the Georgetown Law community.

Periodically during the academic year DPS, in cooperation with other Georgetown Law organizations and departments, will present crime prevention awareness sessions on sexual assault (rape and acquaintance rape), Rohypnol abuse, theft and vandalism, as well as educational sessions on personal safety and residence hall security. A common theme of all awareness and crime prevention programs will be to encourage students and employees to be aware of their responsibility for their own security and the security of others.

In addition to seminars, information will be disseminated to students and employees through crime prevention awareness packets, security alert posters, displays and advertisements in university and student newspapers.

When time is of the essence, information will be released to the Georgetown Law community through security alerts posted prominently throughout campus and through computer memos sent over the Georgetown Law electronic mail system.
