Resident Fellows 2011 - 2012 ruler

Five Resident Fellows work hard to make your stay in Gewirz safe, comfortable, and enjoyable.  RF's act as liasons between administration and students, helping to enforce administrative policies and conveying student concerns to administrators.  RF's also work to develop a supportive community at Gewirz by coordinating social events and group activities.  At least one RF is always on call in case of an emergency.  Below are a list of your RFs for the 2011-2012 academic year.

Naima Farrell - Floors 2 & 3 Apt. 304

picture of naima farrell Naima graduated from Yale University with a degree in Ethics, Politics, and Economics in 2007.  Before coming to law school, Naima served for two years as a Peace Corps volunteer in Benin, West Africa, where she taught English in a village secondary school, organized a regional summer girls' empowerment camp, and learned how to pound yams with vigor.  At Georgetown, Naima spends her time outside of class volunteering at the Capital Area Immigrants' Rights Coalition, running (okay, jogging) around the Mall, and watching too much Modern Family.  She spent her 1L summer interning at the First Circuit Court of Appeals in her home state of Massachusetts.  This year, Naima looks forward to externing with the Public Defender Service of D.C., participating in CALS (Georgetown's asylum clinic), and serving as Secretary of the Women's Legal Alliance.  She is very excited to welcome a new class of Hoya Lawyas to the GULC campus!

Robert Smith - Floors 4 & 5 Apt. 504

picture of robert smith Robert was born and raised in Westchester County, NY.  He attended Williams College, where he double majored in Political Science and Astrophysics. His Honors Thesis analyzed the response of conventionally-armed states to nuclear threats. While at Williams, he served as a Junior Advisor, living with and advising 27 freshmen. In the winter, when not staying warm by the fire, he taught skiing through the Williams Outing Club and once decided to snowshoe up Mount Greylock to spend the night--in -5 degree weather. He got zero sleep and a great story. He went straight from Williams to Georgetown Law, and is very happy with the decision. At Georgetown, he is a member of the Student Library Advisory Board and works ten hours a week at the Media Desk in the library. This past summer he clerked with a judge on the Maryland Court of Special Appeals.

picture of ben klein Ben Klein hails from Atlanta Georgia, and reps the A as hard as possible without breaking an arm.  Go Hawks.  Despite growing up in the South, he went West to study International Relations at Stanford University.  He then used (less than you might imagine) his I.R. degree during his Peace Corps Service, which was spent in Ha Makhoroana, a small village in rural Lesotho.  Afterwards, a brief stint as a high school literature teacher and orchestra coach back in beloved Atlanta, and then it was off to law school.  Here at Georgetown, you’re most likely to find Ben in one of three places:

Studying on the 3rd floor of Wolff; (2) taking a yoga class in the fitness center; or (3) In the Gewirz lounge, alternating between banging away at the piano and standing by the pool table begging any and all passersby for “just one” game.  Welcome to Georgetown, and I look forward to getting to know many of you.

picture of anne young Anne majored in Political Science at the University of California, Berkeley.  Upon graduation, she spent seven years working as a retail manager.  In time, she realized that a career in retail was not exactly for her and decided to escape to law school.  She left her home state of California to live on the east coast for the first time, and was thrilled to become a Section 2 Hoya.  This past summer she interned for a judge at the Superior Court of California, San Francisco.  She is currently a member of Moot Court and BLSA.  Anne enjoys jogging and trying to play the accordion.

Brendan was the first to design a major in Bioethics at University ofCalifornia,Santa Cruz. Throughout this time he worked with Rape Prevention Education facilitating workshops and presentations for high schools and colleges. After graduation he spent several years fixing and breaking motorcycles, bartending, writing (most of) a fiction novel, and designing and executing effects for live television. After this 3-year career sampler, he chose Georgetown law for section 3 and also for its strength in bioethics. For two summers, he's worked with the Center for Genetics and Society doing biotech policy research. This year, he will be a returning Resident Fellow, board member and actor for the Georgetown Gilbert and Sullivan Society, co-president of the Society for Health Law and Bioethics, receiver for a flag football team, and a collector of physical and mental human tricks.
