What are the benefits of living in the Gewirz Student Center?
How and when do I apply ? Applications can be completed online. All applications must be received by May 1, 2008. Since housing assignments are determined by lottery, there is no advantage to applying early. All students, so long as they apply by May 1, 2008, have an equal chance at housing. How are assignments determined? A lottery for first-year students will be generated to assign apartment styles based on preference. If we have more applicants than we have spaces available, this lottery will also determine the order of the waiting list. Your housing application and non-refundable $100 must be received in the Office of Residence Life by May 1, 2008, to enter lottery. Can I pay by credit card? Yes, this is the preferred method of payment. Students who choose to pay by check will not have their applications processed until their check is received. Is my $125 refundable? Can I cancel my occupancy agreement? If an applicant is accepted to another institution and they choose not to attend Georgetown they will not be charged a cancellation fee. If an applicant remains a registered student at Georgetown, they will be charged a $400 cancellation fee if they cancel after June 15. This will be posted to your student account. After August 20, you will be held to all the terms of the agreement. If I defer admission, will I be charged a cancellation fee? No. Deferred students should notify the Office of Residence Life of their deferral. The $125 application fee will guarantee a space for the following year. I'm on the waiting list, what are my chances? In past years, we have been able to accommodate all first year students who requested housing, but we cannot guarantee housing to students. Since first year students are given priority, we are usually only able to accomodate a few students on the 2L, 3L transfer student, and LL.M. waiting list. I missed the lottery date; Can I get on the waiting list? Yes. The $125 is not necessary to get on the waiting list. If you are assigned a space you will then need to send in your occupancy agreement with $125. How do you match roommates? When possible, we will match roommates by request. Both roommates must request each other on the housing application. Male and female roommates will be matched if both parties are agreeable. We will take into consideration your responses to your roommate questionnaire application form, i.e. gender and smoking habits. Revised April 13, 2005 (SD) |
