PRESIDENT

Darryl Hazelwood
I am asking for your vote because I want to create a more responsive and proactive student government. My prior experience as SBA Treasurer allowed me to interact with all of the various student organizations on campus and better assess the needs of the student population. While I had to resign my SBA position for family reasons, I am currently involved in various school-wide policy matters, serving as a member of three student-faculty committees (Finance Committee, Student Travel Committee and the Teaching Committee).  As SBA President I hope to use the knowledge and connections that I have gained working with students, faculty and administrators to create a more effective student government.

If elected, I will:

1.) Focus on Externship Opportunities.  As President, I will work with the administration and faculty to improve our externship program to allow more students to take advantage of these opportunities.

2.) Improve Communication and Transparency.   Students deserve a SBA that is both transparent and responsive.  If I am elected President, I will make it a standing policy that resolutions and minutes of all SBA meetings are posted to the SBA website within 48 hours.

3.)  Strengthen Relationships with Alumni:  As President, I will work with the Alumni Office, Career Services, Office of the Dean of Students, and student organizations to connect students with Georgetown alumni.  Our alumni are a strong and invaluable resource that we should be utilizing to help students obtain employment and better understand what we can accomplish with a Georgetown Law degree.

Chris Morgan-Riess
SBA should look to the future of our students and our institution.  As SBA President, I will fulfill both of these mandates: your concerns will be my agenda.  SBA has great latitude to address existing issues and novel concerns, from Bar Review to reviewing for the Bar.  This year students recognized problems with the grade-distribution policy and the quality of Wifi on campus; as President, I will ensure that these and other concerns are resolved.  No reasonable calls for change will go unanswered.

Jobs are a priority.  I will do all that I can to ensure that career counseling is tailored not only to the individual student but also to the ever-changing job market.  Next year will bring a new OCS director and opportunities for new ideas and approaches.  As President, I will ensure that our input is not marginalized: it is our careers that are ultimately on the line. I will reach out to our neighbors, be they firms, non-profits, or government agencies--all with an eye towards increasing our options and prospects for success.

As Attorney General of the Student Bar Association, I oversaw the re-drafting of SBA's constitution and bylaws. As a result, I know SBA's structure and functions intimately.  Given my experience and dedication to the GULC community, I am uniquely qualified to lead SBA.

It has been an honor to serve as a delegate and as Attorney General during the last two years, and with your support I will continue to serve you as President.


Shaun Zhang
I am running for president to ensure that the Student Bar Association continues to serve you, the Students.

As president, I will improve your accessibility to SBA so we can better understand your needs. Working on various committees, I have served for two years and have experience in both policy and programming initiatives. For example, I introduced online ticketing for Fall Float and Barristers’ Ball as Special Events Chair in response to student feedback.
            
In addition to SBA, I have served my fellow students as Peer Advisor, APALSA Treasurer, Student Ambassadors Chair, and Home Court Sponsors Chair. I earned a record of generating results and gained valuable experience working with students, faculty, and administrators to accomplish student initiatives.

The Student Bar Association is about you, and no one will work harder than me to make your vote count.

As president, I will:

1. Work for Your Needs. I’ll seek student input for new initiatives whether it is improving our wireless network or securing more desirable vendors.

2. Focus on Jobs. I’ll work with OCS to improve reporting of law firm interview statistics, particularly on factors outside of GPA.

3. Increase Organization Interaction. I’ll promote more organizational input in SBA, particularly by encouraging groups to discuss and defend their submitted bills.

4. Improve Accessibility. I’ll work to increase SBA presence on campus and public knowledge of our policies.

5. Expand Student Resources. I’ll continue to build SBA’s course guide and outline bank to ensure they are up-to-date and relevant.



DAY VICE PRESIDENT

Alexis Kellert
My name is Alexis “Lexi” Kellert, and I am running for Day Vice President. As a 1L delegate and member of the Career Services sub-committee I was able to observe experienced members of the SBA at weekly meetings and also to contribute my own ideas to the organization.

Throughout my term I have identified several goals that I plan to address if elected—distributing syllabi prior to the semester through email; unifying courseware/TWEN etc.; publishing which courses that prohibit laptops; developing consistent note-taking services in laptop prohibited courses; improving exam collection for 1Ls—but I also recognize the value of collaborating with others, and I always welcome suggestions from fellow classmates. I would be honored to continue to serve on the SBA, and I hope to represent your collective interests as effectively as possible in the coming semester. Thank you for your support.

Dear Georgetown Law Community,

It is my pleasure to seek your support to be the next Day Vice President of the Georgetown Law Student Bar Association. Presently, I am a 1L and one of the Section 3 Delegates. Over the course of this year, I have sought to improve the Georgetown Law Community by doing the following:
1. Co-Sponsoring a resolution to support the GHRA/Amnesty International petitions to re-institute the Human Rights Fellowships
2. Co-Sponsoring a resolution to end the mailing of midterm grades in year long courses
3. Assisting with the rewrite of the SBA Constitution as a member of the Judiciary Committee
4. Assisting with the execution of supplemental funding and spring budget requests as a member of the Appropriations Committee

The experiences throughout this year have given me a unique perspective on ways to improve our community and I hope to continue to serve our community diligently next year. As Day Vice President, I will be working toward a few goals:

•        Working with Career Services to make sure that Georgetown Law students are in the best possible position to launch their careers

For those of you who have chosen to remain in the evening program, it would be an honor for me to represent you on the SBA this year. My priority is to ensure that evening students are able to participate in and enjoy as much of the GULC experience as possible, despite our often hectic schedules. Being in the evening program doesn’t have to mean that our time consists of work and class and nothing else; for those who are so inclined, I’ll do my best to maximize the social and academic integration of evening students into the GULC community.

My name is Milla Savelieff and I am running for Evening Vice President. I am currently in my third year in the evening program and serve as the 3E representative. I have enjoyed my time as a part of the SBA and can use that experience towards serving as Evening Vice President. I would like to spend next year focusing on both social activities and academic concerns. Socially, evening students range from people who are single and prefer happy hours to those who have families and would also enjoy events welcoming children. I would work with my fellow evening representatives to plan a variety of events along these lines. Separately, I know that I came to Georgetown because of its excellent academics above all else and so I would like to focus on student questions, suggestions, and concerns with the program. Most importantly, I would be honored to serve as an advocate for evening student concerns overall.

Having navigated the Appropriations labyrinth, I aim to make the funding experience as efficient and transparent as possible. Goals include: cutting catering costs, offering comprehensive budget guidance, and implementing flexible procedures for independently-raised funds. Groups should have all the resources they need, but there must be accountability in using appropriated funds only for stated purposes. I look forward to working openly and closely with all student organizations and each of you as I continue in service to this vibrant student body!  



SECRETARY

Sarah Danley
Hi!  I’m Sarah Danley, and I’m running for the position of SBA secretary.  I am currently at 2E student, and I transferred to GULC this past fall from Little Rock, Arkansas.  Now that I pretty much know where the bathrooms are and how to get out of the parking garage and have generally acclimated to the DC, I thought I should take this opportunity to get involved and use my previous experience and skills to represent my fellow classmates at GULC.

During my undergraduate career at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock (UALR), I had the opportunity to serve as president, vice-president and chief justice of the Student Government Association.  These experiences were invaluable and life-shaping.  While serving in these roles some of the activities of which I am most proud include:  sharing the stage with the governor to successfully speak out against a proposed state amendment that would drastically cut funding for higher education and arranging for a televised debate for our senatorial candidates at the time.  I take service to the community and to my classmates very seriously.

Upon graduation, I worked at UALR as a campus life specialist, where I advised the fraternity and sorority groups, served as the women’s advocate for the university, and taught classes for entering freshmen.   I was also able to complete my MBA while working at the university.  I believe that my extensive experience in student services and passion for giving back make me an excellent candidate for SBA.


Parker Schnell
As a 1L delegate, I’ve had an amazing year so far representing Section One. As a member of the Campus Services committee, I’ve been able to be involved in crafting a new bicycle policy to make more storage on campus, working to change the hours of the campus food services during finals week, and bringing the concerns of members of my section to the larger student government. While I’ve greatly enjoyed my time working to represent my section, I hope to have the chance to serve the greater student body and this is why I am running for Secretary of SBA.

As Secretary, I will help facilitate meetings for the entire student government. I will be responsible for ensuring that the agenda is set, that the delegates have the most up-to-date information and resolutions, keeping track of the proceedings, and communicating SBA’s actions to all students. As someone who is reliable, detail-oriented, and very friendly, I am well-equipped to perform these tasks. I also think that new ways to communicate from SBA to all the students using social media could improve the relationship between representatives and their constituents. I am looking forward to a great rest of this year at Georgetown and hope to help make next year even better!

-New GULC social events that bring the community together, across class years.
In addition to Fall Float and Barristers’ Ball, what about adding a tour of Virginia’s fantastic wineries?  This would be a relaxing way to celebrate the end of the year in May.

Candidates make empty promises, but I have a track record of accomplishment in Student, University, and real-world government. At McGill University, I served as President of the Student Society in my senior year. I worked with a team of five VPs and a full-time staff to manage a budget of over $5M. I also served on the University Board, Senate, and Student Council. After graduation, I worked on and ran several campaigns before serving for Chief of Staff to a NYC Councilwoman. As SBA rep, I will bring my experience to bear in aggressively advocating the interests of my colleagues.

Hi 1L’s! We probably know each other, and, if we don’t yet, I’m 95% sure we have friends in common. I ask for your vote to serve as a 2L delegate for SBA.  I served as my class's representative in college, and then as the faculty liaison between the administration and student body while teaching high school.  I have the experience, and I understand the practical realities of what it takes to make change whether the issue is grading policy or Friday afternoon football.  Furthermore, there is nothing that comes more instinctively for me than bringing people together.  Law School is a team sport—I’ve grown to love this place and would be honored by this chance to give back.

Greetings Georgetown Law evening students.  I am running for 2E delegate so that I can continue to represent your needs to the administration and the school at large.  Among issues that we worked on last semester was the transfer policy, which we resolved with success. I hope that my co-delegate Allyson and I have been receptive to your concerns and I hope to continue having the privilege of representing you.  I wish to ensure that our class is taken into account when events are scheduled, and that we know about them ahead of time.  I will continue to represent our best interests, and be available to anyone who wishes to raise concerns.

After working this past year on Oktoberfest and working with the administration on the interdivisional transfer policy, I hope to continue serving evening students next year. My goal is to continue working to ensure that there are a variety of activities, programs, and social events that evening students can attend. Specifically, I hope to start a tradition of evening student happy hours on Fridays, making it easier for students who work full time to attend. I want to be your 3L delegate to continue advocating for our student body. As SBA Secretary, I solicited student opinions and addressed them through projects like the SBA resolution for better wireless. Additionally, I organized the “Puppy Break."

This semester, I have organized mixers with the Medical and Business School which will be happening in the coming weeks!  I also helped in organizing Food for Thought, where students can have lunch with professors

Next year, I will work with alumni services to increase interaction between students and alumni and use our expansive alumni network.
