    Bulletin Board

    The Office of Student Life maintains a bulletin board of events in and around D.C., including theatre, lectures, and museums. A separate bulletin board features events after 4:00 pm for evening students. The Office also provides information on activities and attractions such as wineries, museums, hiking, rafting, shopping, nightlife, biking, historic sites, sports events, restaurants, and roadtrips. Just stop by room 170!


    Commencement and Graduation Gala

    Each year, family and friends gather on the Main Campus to celebrate graduation. This semi-formal event includes an elegant reception immediately following the diploma presentations. The Graduation Gala, held the Saturday before graduation, is an opportunity for faculty and administrators to celebrate with the graduates and their families. Traditionally held at the National Building Museum, this event features live music, dinner buffet and dancing.


    Discount Theatre, Sporting Event, and Movie Tickets

    The Office of Student Life regularly offers discounted tickets to events at the Kennedy Center, the Shakespeare Theatre, the Arena Stage, the National Theatre, the Warner Theatre, Camden Yards, and the Verizon Center as well as discounted movie tickets to AMC & Regal Cinemas and other theaters.


    Ask an Administrator

    Each Wednesday, from 12:30 p.m. - 1:30 p.m. a senior administrator will be available to chat, answer questions or just hear your concerns. Look for the dean or director at a table in the Market Cafe.  Of course you can schedule an appointment with an administrator anytime you like, but this is a way in which simple questions or burning issues can be addressed quickly.  Free cookies for stopping by!

    Fitness Center

    The Sport & Fitness Center, free for all students, is a fully-equipped, top of the line cardiovascular facility which includes treadmills, stair masters, rowing machines, Nordic Track, and various styles of stationary bicycles, room facility contains state-of-the-art Cybex weight machines, as well as stations for free weight and barbell lifting. The Fitness Center staff is trained on the use of all equipment. The Fitness Center offers a wide variety of programs and classes such as step aerobics, NIA, yoga, and Tae Kwon Do.

    Members of the Law Center community also have the opportunity to use the Yates Field House, a multilevel recreational complex located on the Georgetown University main campus.


    Orientation Peer Advisors

    The Office of Student Life brings together entering first year students and second and third year students in a mentoring program during the first semester. These Orientation Advisors participate in a training program and are assigned groups of first year students to share experiences on the transition to law school.


    Space Reservations

    Internal organizations and departments reserve spaces at the Georgetown University Law Center through the Office of Student Life.  Requests must be in writing.  The following links will take you request forms that may be printed, filled out and faxed to (202) 662-9261.  They may also be submitted electronically to studentlife@law.georgetown.edu.  Please review the criteria below each link to be certain you are using the correct form.

    Room Space Request

    • routine meeting in a lecture hall, classroom or conference room
    • attended primarily by internal members of the Law Center community – students, staff and faculty (one or two low-profile guest speakers to a limited group of internal attendees is okay; may also be used by clinics for client meetings)
    • no extensive audio visual requirements
    • no extensive facilities management needs
    • no external catering or extensive internal catering (brown bags, pot lucks and pizza are okay; user assumes responsibility for cleanup)
    • no alcoholic beverages
    • do not use for Make-Up Classes

    Special Events Request Form (the Salmon Form)

    ALWAYS used to reserve:
    • the Gewirz 12th Floor
    • the Hart Auditorium
    • Tower Green, the Library Quad and other external areas
    • atriums and other public access areas
    • the Gewirz TV Lounge, the Library’s Fifth Floor, the SCI Moot Courtroom, the Faculty Lounge and the Faculty Dining Room (limited availability and additional approval required - takes more time to process)
    ALSO used to reserve lecture halls, classrooms and conference rooms for Special Event Activities. Special Event Activities include:
    • outside guests, members of the general public or VIPs in attendance
    • high profile / high security speakers
    • special audio visual services are required
    • furniture arrangement, extra chairs or extra trash cans are required
    • external catering or extensive internal catering
    • alcoholic beverages are a component of the event
    • With the exception of bar review companies, external requests are vetted through the Office of Special Events, which also coordinates activities for external organizations that are sponsored by internal faculty members and departments.
    • Individuals may not request Special Events spaces or host Special Event activities, however they may be able to rent facilities through the Office of Special Events.
    • Special Events requests should be submitted a minimum of two weeks prior to an event. Facilities Management and Audio Visual require a minimum notice of two weeks for their services, and Public Safety may need to schedule additional personnel.

    Table Request Form

    • used to reserve the tables in the Chapel Area
    • only internal organizations may use these tables on Wednesdays

    Rescheduled Class Notification Form

    • always used to schedule a “make-up” class
    • copies of this form are sent to the Office of the Registrar and the Audio Visual department

    Please provide all information requested and print legibly. Incomplete and illegible forms delay processing.

    Provided the form has been filled out completely and legibly, room assignments for most events will be emailed within three business days. Special Event assignments are usually emailed within seven business days.

    Room & Space Posting Policies


    Student Message Boxes and Folders

    All day and evening J.D. students are provided with an individual message box located at the north end of the first floor of McDonough Hall. Campus offices and departments use these message boxes and folders to communicate important events and deadline information to students.  LL.M. Folders are in the Graduate Programs office in Hotung.


    Supreme Court Student Seating

    While attending school in Washington, D.C., law students should try to attend at least one session of the United States Supreme Court. The Office of Student Life maintains limited reserved seating for Georgetown Law students.  Sign-ups begin on the first day of classes during the fall semester.  Limited seating for Supreme Court sessions is also available to the general public on a first-come, first-served basis.


    Today calendar

    For the convenience of students, staff, and visitors, each day's events are listed on the Today Sheet, which is posted in the Law Center's elevators, on the Office of Student Life bulletin board outside of Room 170 and other locations.


    Parents Room

    The Law Center now has a "parents / nursing Mom's" room available.  The room is private and includes a small refrigerator.  If you are interested in using this space, please check out a key from the Office of Student Life, Room 170.


    Event Broadcast Email

    If your student organization would like to advertise an upcoming event, please send a copy of the event's flyer to oslbroadcast@law.georgetown.edu by Monday (noon).  The flyers are then compiled into a mass information broadcast that is sent to the Law Center campus.
