Office of Student Life:  Getting to Know DC Guide ruler

VI. Entertainment

Kennedy Center

Outside of its museums and landmarks, DC has an active arts community, a wide range of theatres, and several A-list concert venues.  The Kennedy Center offers not only a venue for the National Symphony Orchestra, operas, ballets and other classical performances but also hosts internationally themed festivals, jazz concerts, and other contemporary performing arts.  DC has many other performing art theatres: the Woolly Mammoth, Lincoln Theatre, Warner Theatre, and the Shakespeare Theatre are just a few of these.  And for music fans, the Black Cat and 9:30 Club, both located near the U Street area, are the two most famous live concert venues in the District.

In terms of movie theatres, Regal Gallery Place Stadium 14 (in Chinatown) and Phoenix Theatres Union Station 9 are the closest multiplexes to the Law Center.  Other theatres in DC include the AMC Loews Georgetown 14 (by the Georgetown waterfront), AMC Loews Mazza Gallerie 7 (Friendship Heights) and the extra big screen of the Uptown (Cleveland Park).  Landmark's E-Street Cinema (Penn Quarter) and Bethesda Row Cinema just outside DC cater more to the arthouse crowd.
