IV. Shopping
As far as everyday needs are concerned, most law students take frequent advantage of two local CVS pharmacies, one at 4th and H street (just west of the Law Center), and the other slightly further down H Street in Chinatown, at 801 7th St NW. The closest grocery stores are Giant at 1414 8th St. NW, and Safeway at 514 Rhode Island Ave. NE. For those living in Gewirz, a scheduled Shopping Shuttle takes students several days a week to Trader Joe's / Wholefoods or Potomac Yard / Harris Teeter, as organized by the Office of Housing and Residence Life. In terms of non-food shopping, closest to the Law Center you'll find The Shops at Union Station. Chinatown, just west of the Law Center, also has some shoping opportunities. Slightly further afield but still in the District, the Metro Center metro stop (red line) has several shops, including H&M, Macy's and Filene's Basement within walking distance, and the Columbia Heights metro stop (green line) has a newly opened shopping complex by the Tivoli Theatre anchored by BestBuy and Target. While the Washington, DC area proper lacks any true indoor malls, the city is literally surrounded by shopping opportunities. Taking the blue line to the Pentagon City metro stop in Virginia will deposit you at the Pentagon City Mall. On the red line, the Friendship Heights stop is near the Mazza Gallerie and the White Flint stop will get you to the White Flint Mall. Those willing to venture west into Virginia on the Metro's orange line or elsewhere along the red line northwest into Maryland will be rewarded with access to a plethora of other stores and malls. Driving to these areas - or even slightly further away from the city - is also recommended for those looking to shop.
