OSL Programs The Office of Student Life runs several programs throughout the year on behalf of Georgetown Law students. Below is a list of the recurring programs.
Orientation events for first-year students begin the week before classes start in the Fall Semester. Events include presentations by assistant deans, the registrar, and faculty, and a bike ride around D.C. If you are an admitted student, visit the admitted students website for details of this year's orientation schedule. Like the J.D. orientation, LL.M. Orientation events begin the week before classes start in the Fall Semester. If you are an admitted student, visit the admitted students website for details of this year's orientation schedule. At this reception, Evening Students can meet representatives from the Office of the Dean of Students and the Student Bar Association. This is a great chance to learn about the many student organizations at Georgetown Law, find out about upcoming events, sign up to receive communication, and even join groups of interest. The 2009 Student Organization Fair is scheduled for Wednesday, September 9th, from 3:30-5:30pm on the Tower Green (Rain Site: Sport and Fitness Center Lobby). Tables are provided for the student organizations that register for the event. Refreshments and entertainment are provided to all students by The Office of Student Life. During final exams, OSL sponsors the Night Owl Breakfast. Deans and Faculty serve students a free late-night breakfast featuring sausage, scrambled eggs, pancakes, pastries, juice, and lots of coffee. In years past this has been a much-appreciated study break. Multicultural Week highlights the cooperative spirit of the Georgetown Law community by sharnig the richness of culture, languages, heritage, and traditions at Georgetown Law. The week includes internationally themed lectures, events, and symposia, culminating in a Multicultural Day Fair which presents traditional foods, dress, art, dance, singing and literature. Representatives from the over 50 student organizations share traditions and food as well as performances by different ethnic groups. This is an annual fund raiser for the Bettina Pruckmayr Award. Bettina was a 1994 graduate of Georgetown Law, whose life was tragically cut short during a brutal robbery. A monetary award is given each year to a graduating student dedicated to continuing Bettina's work in the field of International Human Rights. For a nominal fee or the contribution of a homemade dessert, participants are admitted into a room filled with chocolate treats, where they are allowed to eat to their heart's content. Commencement Weekend Each year, family and friends gather on the Main Campus to celebrate Commencement. This semi-formal event includes an elegant reception immediately following the diploma presentations. The Graduation Gala, held the Saturday before graduation, is an opportunity for faculty and administrators to celebrate with the graduates and their families. Traditionally held at the National Building Museum, this event features live music, dinner buffet and dancing. * coordinated by the Office of the Dean of Students
