Auditions

Open auditions are held for each show, usually in September (for the Fall musical), December (for the Winter drama), and February (for the Spring G&S operetta). For the musicals, we have a cast-anyone policy for Georgetown students, so there is no way you will be left out if you want to be on stage.

What to Expect
Auditions are held from 7:00-10:00 pm for two nights with a possible third night for callbacks. Auditions are open; arrive at any time and you will be seen in the order that you arrive. You will be called into the auditorium to perform (see below) in front of the Director, Stage Manager and Music Director. You may be given a short piece to learn, then be asked to return in a few minutes to read with another auditioner.
If the production will involve dancing, you may be asked to learn a short routine and perform it in a group with other auditionees. There is no need to prepare any dance number.

What to Prepare
For musical auditions (Fall and Spring), prepare a short song to sing a cappella (without accompaniment). There are a limited number of vocal/piano music books available at the audition, and only occasionally someone who can accompany you on the piano. Anything goes—you can even sing Happy Birthday if you are at a loss for a favorite song.
For drama auditions (Winter), there is no need for a prepared piece.

After the completion of auditions, cast/chorus members will receive e-mail regarding rehearsal schedules. Rehearsals usually run 7:00-10:00 pm M-F for the 6 weeks prior to the show. Principals may expect to rehearse several nights a week; chorus members usually are called 1-2 nights a week for the first few weeks. The last 2-3 weeks before the show call for full cast every night. Additionally, every cast and chorus member will be assigned to a tech crew, which will involve, at minimum, the weekends before and during the run of the show, and at least 1-2 other weekends before that.

Tech & Backstage Crews

Love to hammer things, screw things (with a screwdriver of course), paint flats, play with electricity, or generally just get messy? Come help us backstage! This is a great way to get involved if you don't have the time to devote to rehearsal on weeknights, or don't want to be on stage.
Just stop by an audition and talk to the stage manager, or drop us an e-mail at ggss@law.georgetown.edu to let us know what you're interested in. Tech crew members are, of course, happily welcomed to any and all cast parties!

Orchestra/Music

We welcome anyone with orchestra/band experience who would like to play in the pit! The time commitment for the orchestra is generally 3-4 rehearsals preceding show week, then every night during show week. The Musical Director is in charge of recruitment for each show, so if you're interested, please e-mail ggss@law.georgetown.edu. Orchestra members are, of course, happily welcomed to any and all cast parties!

Parties

We suspect this is why you're really interested. GG&SS holds a party every Friday night after rehearsal. We also have parties after every show during production week.
Everyone is invited to every party!!! All parties are Bring-Your-Own-Drinks-and-Food.
All parties are hosted by members of the cast, crew, and board, and alumni. For party information, please e-mail ggss@law.georgetown.edu.
