On April 2, 2007, the Supreme Court issued decisions in Massachusetts v. EPA and Environmental Defense v. Duke Energy.  In Massachusetts v. EPA, the Court's first case dealing directly with global warming, the Court reversed the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit and required EPA to reconsider its decision not to regulate greenhouse gas emission from motor vehicles.  In Environmental Defense v. Duke Energy, the Court reversed the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit, reinstating an enforcement proceeding against Duke Energy.

This event is sponsored by the Georgetown Law Supreme Court Institute and the Georgetown Environmental Law & Policy Institute.
