Profile:
Ms. Adjetey currently acts as Principal Counsel with the Legal Department of the Volta River Authority. In addition, she is a member of the Board of Directors of Youth AIDS Awareness.
LAWA Experience:
While pursuing her LLM, Ms. Adjetey researched FGM and African women’s identity and authored the paper, “Reclaiming the African Woman’s Individuality: The Struggle Between Women’s Reproductive Autonomy and African Society and Culture.” Ms. Adjetey presented her paper, which was published in 1995 in the American University Law Review, to a conference in DC and again in Dakar (Africa Regional Preparatory Conference for Beijing).
In addition to these accomplishments, she completed her graduate thesis, entitled: “The Advancement of Women’s Rights: the Way to African Economic Development,” and an additional paper entitled “Female Genital Mutilation: Tradition or Torture?”
Ms. Adjetey completed her fellowship internship with the Women’s Rights Project division of Human Rights Watch, during which she gave a talk to the Center for Reproductive Law and Policy on reproductive rights in Ghana.
Other Work Experience:
Following graduation, Ms. Adjetey resumed her position as State Attorney in the Attorney General’s Department in Ghana. She later became Public Relations Officer for the International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA) Executive Committee, based on her proposal that FIDA develop the capability to respond immediately to media coverage of women’s legal issues. Ms. Adjetey has acted as co-director of Leadership and Advocacy for Women in Africa – Ghana (LAWA-Ghana).
Publications:
Co-authored the “FIDA Handbook on Domestic Violence in Ghana,” with fellow LAWA alumna Gloria Ofori-Boadu, in 1997.
