Profile:
Ms. Duncan is currently the acting Head of the Rights Protection & Promotion section of the Untied Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) in Accra, Ghana. She has been a UNICEF representative since 2003.
LAWA Experience:
Ms. Duncan’s graduate thesis, entitled “Marital Rape as a Form of Domestic Violence and the Need for Law Reform in Ghana,” discussed the culture of silence and the historical/legal basis for male immunity as well as strategies for change.
For her fellowship internship, Ms. Duncan was placed with the International Human Rights Law Group.
Other Work Experience:
Following LAWA, Ms. Duncan returned to her law firm in Accra where she focused on protecting children’s rights, making the law accessible to rural women and advocating legal reform. In 1995 she produced a film on the reaction of market women in Ghana to structural adjustment programs, and presented the film abroad.
In 1996, she worked with the Ghana National Commission on Children. The following year, she established Spectrum Consultancy Services, Ltd., as well as the Gender-Child Development Consultants, Ltd., for which she wrote a review of NGO Support Programmes in the Upper West Region of Ghana.
