Ms. Limbu began pursuing her Doctorate at Cornell in 2002, and is currently completing her dissertation entitled, “Making Justice More Accessible to the Poor with a Special Focus on Women: Introducing Clinical Legal Education in Tanzania,” in fulfillment of her S.J.D.

LAWA Experience:

Ms. Limbu was WLPPFP’s first Higher Education Fellow, a Fellowship supported jointly by the Ford Foundation, the Carnegie Corporation and the Rockefeller Foundation, to promote women’s access to higher education in Tanzania. Along these lines, she completed her graduate research paper, “Gender Equality and Higher Education in Tanzania.”

In addition to her graduate degree curriculum at Georgetown, Ms. Limbu gained exposure to the practical aspects of teaching and to Georgetown’s clinical programs through her mentorship with WLPPFP alumna and Georgetown professors. Ms. Limbu completed two placements, one at Amnesty International with the Africa Program of the Government Relations Office, and one at the UN High Commission on Refugees as a legal intern.

At the UNHCR she analyzed US trafficking regulations and their effect on refugees, especially women and children. She developed a paper on issues affecting women refugees as “marginalized refugees” in 2001.

Other Work Experience:

Prior to LAWA, Ms. Limbu worked as a research assistant at Ministry of Health in the Family Planning Unit in Tanzania. Post-fellowship, she worked with CARE Tanzania as a Program Officer.
