Profile:
The Honorable Addy Lyamuya is currently Principal Resident Magistrate of the Kisutu Resident Magistrate's Court in Dar es Salaam. She continues to provide legal education for Envirocare, an environmental and human rights organization in her district.
LAWA Experience:
Magistrate Lyamuya wrote her graduate Paper: “The Criminal Justice for the Victim of Child Sexual Abuse in Tanzania Mainland Courts,” in 1995 on much needed reforms in the area of child abuse and the prison system. For her fellowship internship, she worked at the Center for Law and Education in Washington, D.C.
Other Work Experience:
Prior to LAWA, Magistrate Lyamuya worked at the Tanzania Women Crisis Center (TAMWA), and was a patron and legal adviser to the Tanzania Catholic Woman Association. In 1989, she co-founded the Tanzania Women’s Lawyers Association, with which she continues to work. In 1997 Magistrate Lyamuya returned to her position as Principal Magistrate assigned to Moshi, Tanzania (Kilimanjaro District). The following year, she taught a seminar on Legal Rights of Women and Children at N’guni village Hai District, and was interviewed by the Radio of Moshi to analyze the Sexual Offences Special Provision Act no 4 of 1998.
