Profile:

Ms. Musoke is currently a partner in private practice at Musoke and Company Advocates, where she works on women’s and children’s rights cases and human rights matters especially in the area of reproductive and sexual rights.

She is currently a Senior Principal Lecturer at the Law Development Centre where she teaches Domestic Relations law. She is also the Head of the Department of Research, Law Reform and Publications at the Law Development Centre.

Ms. Musoke is currently a Doctoral Candidate at Emory University School of Law. Her thesis is on Advancing Women’s Reproductive and Sexual Rights using the African Human Rights System.

LAWA Experience:

Ms. Musoke focused her graduate studies on the skills needed to effectively advocate for the rights of Ugandan women in good corporate governance, culminating in her graduate paper, “Shattering the Glass Ceiling: What Women in Uganda Need to Make it to the Top.” While pursuing her LLM, Ms. Musoke attended the Georgetown Leadership Seminar, a week-long, invitation-only gathering of world leaders in Washington, DC. During this time she was able to meet with policy makers from around the world and discussed important issues affecting us. Issues like globalization, global warming and donor financing were debated and possible solutions made.

She completed her fellowship internship with the Center for Reproductive Law and Policy (CRLP). There, she gained advocacy skills on how to advocate for the promotion of reproductive and sexual rights, attended congress hearings and wrote a report on whether the State Department was effectively reporting on these issues when issuing out their reports on human rights. She additionally attended the United Nations meeting on Youth and HIV/AIDS in 2001 and presented a paper in one of the sessions on the connection between HIV/AIDS and reproductive health.

Additional Experience:

Prior to LAWA, Ms. Musoke acted as a senior lecturer in domestic relations and environmental law courses at the Law Development Center in Kampala, Uganda. She has been the managing partner of the firm Musoke and Company Advocates, Kampala since 1993, and specializes in domestic relations law.

In 1997 Ms. Musoke became Head of the Department of Law Reporting at the Law Development Center. From 1998 - 2000, she was President of the Uganda Law Society, advising the legislative arm of government on legislation regarding law reform. During that time she was also the Chairperson of the Legal Aid Project of the Uganda Law Society.

She is currently a member of the Uganda Association of Women Lawyers (FIDA (U)) and was Chairperson from 1992-1993 and Secretary of from 1987-1990. She is a member of the Uganda Environmental Law Association, and is both Chairperson and founder of the Uganda Consumers Resource Centre.
