Profile:
Ms. Namuli currently offers free legal advice through two major organizations: the AIDS Widows, Orphans and Family Support Organization (AWOFS) and the National Association of Women Living with HIV/AIDS
LAWA Experience:
Ms. Namuli completed her graduate thesis, entitled “Women and HIV/AIDS in Uganda,” on how laws and practices within marriage have contributed to the problem in Uganda. During her Fellowship she attended the prestigious Georgetown Leadership Seminar, an invitation-only gathering of leaders from around the world that provided Emma with a full scholarship.
For her fellowship internship, Ms. Namuli spent six months working at Whitman-Walker, leading HIV/AIDS legal services provider in the Washington Area.
Other Work Experience:
Prior to LAWA, Ms. Namuli operated as a FIDA-U staff attorney and worked for the Uganda Association of Women Lawyers for several years as a legal officer. Following her fellowship, she joined Law and Advocacy for Women in UGANDA (Law-U).
In 2002, Ms. Namuli became Project Manager for the Juvenile Justice Project, a division of Save the Children. In 2003 began a position of Operations Officer in the Justice, Law and Order and Public Sector Reform Division at the Delegation of the European Commission in Uganda.
Recognition:
In 2001 Emma was nominated for the Reebok Human Rights Award for her research and advocacy work with women with HIV/AIDS.
