Profile:
In 2001, Ms. Nassuna became Senior Global Solidarity and Advocacy officer for Catholic Relief Services Uganda, a position she continues in today. In addition to her work with World Vision and Catholic Relief Services, Ms. Nassuna recently founded the organization Legal and Policy Alternatives in Uganda to focus on health policy analysis and advocacy as well as to strengthen the capacities of communities to champion their rights in the field of health.
LAWA Experience:
Ms. Nassuna focused her research at Georgetown University Law Center on equal employment opportunities for women in Uganda. Her studies culminated in her major research paper entitled, “Ugandan Women and Employment Discrimination in the Formal Sector: Facing Challenges and Forging Change.”
For her fellowship internship, Ms. Nassuna worked at the US Equal Employment Opportunity commission researching and documenting gender discrimination in employment.
Other Work Experience:
Prior to LAWA, Ms. Nassuna was a legal associate at Kisaakye and Company Advocates. In private practice, Ms. Nassuna was a legal practitioner in the areas of family law, employment, and general civil matters.
From 1997-1998 she worked as a Program Officer for the Foundation for Human Rights Initiative in Uganda and later as a Legal Associate for Ibanda-Nahamya and Company Advocates in Kampala. There, she completed a project on legal and sociological implications of compulsory HIV-AIDS testing of sexual offenders.
She has conducted research on a number of topics including: wildlife policy, environmental degradation around Lake Victoria, the legal and sociological implications of introducing an HIV vaccine in Uganda, and public participation in combating corruption
