LAWA Experience:

Drawing on her own extensive experience as well as international law, Ms. Sigodi wrote her graduate research paper on “The Role of Women in Conflict and Conflict Resolution: The Example of South Africa.”

She completed her fellowship internship working at the World Bank in the Africa Division, reviewing the Bank’s projects in Africa with an eye towards gender inclusion and efficacy of approach.

Other Work Experience:

Prior to LAWA, Ms. Sigodi founded the Rape Crisis Center in Port Elizabeth. She held the position of Vice-chairperson of a Manufacturing Advisory Center and worked at the Legal Resources Center, an NGO dealing with public interest litigation. From 1997-2000, Ms. Sigodi worked as an Amnesty Committee Member and Acting Commissioner for the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, South Africa.

Prior to serving on the Amnesty Committee, Ms. Sigodi was the first and only black woman advocate in Port Elizabeth, and was a leader in the fight against apartheid. She is a member of the National Association of Democratic Lawyers (NADEL), Advocate of the Supreme Court of South Africa, and a member of Women in Law.
