A 2001 graduate of New York University School of Law, Jimena has been a long-time advocate for women’s rights and has worked at a number of advocacy organizations including: the Center for Reproductive Law and Policy, the California Women’s Law Center, the Puerto Rican Legal Defense and Education Fund and the Family Violence Law Center. While at NYU, Jimena was a staff editor for the Journal of Legislation and Public Policy and co-chair of the Latino Law Students Association. Born in Peru, raised in Southern California and fluent in Spanish, Jimena has always emphasized a multi-cultural perspective in her work. She developed Spanish language materials for CRLP, worked on housing discrimination and language rights issues in New York, assisted Spanish speaking women obtain restraining orders, and studied the effect Peruvian squatters laws have on women.
During her Fellowship, Jimena worked for the Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund, helping to launch a new initiative focusing on Latina health issues. She currently works at the Neighborhood Legal Services of LA County in Pacioma, California. |
