Provide a unique opportunity for public interest lawyers to learn about legal
and public policy issues affecting women;
- Expand the pool of lawyers who are concerned about laws and public policies particularly affecting women, and whose skills enable them more effectively to advocate for women's rights;
- Enable public interest lawyers to perform significant work with organizations that otherwise might not afford to hire them;
- Encourage lawyers to engage in public interest work as an integral part of their professional careers;
- Demonstrate to women's rights lawyers the intimate connection between policy-making and lawyering;
- Contribute to the crucial work being done in the nation's capital to improve the status of women;
- Increase the understanding of women's rights as legal and public policy issues of equal importance to women and men;
- Spark effective research, writing and advocacy initiatives to improve enforcement of laws and regulations designed to improve the legal status of women;
- Forge stronger links among lawyers working on women's issues; and develop a forum for leaders and other prominent policymakers in Washington, DC, to address legal, public policy, and human rights issues relating to women.
