Female Brain-Drain "a Myth"
"The ‘hidden brain-drain’ of high-flying women opting out of the U.S. workforce to spend more time with their kids is a myth, a new report has claimed. Instead, the real reason for the decline in the number of women in the labour force is the overall weakness of the labour market. An analysis of labour force statistics by the Washington-based Center for Economic and Policy Research (CEPR) suggests that while the percentage of working mothers has been in decline since 2000, so to has the number of working women without children.”
Job Satisfaction is Not Just a Matter of Dollars
"European workers are united in at least one respect: they have reported declining levels of job satisfaction to pollsters over the last three decades. In Britain, for example, the proportion of workers who said they were completely satisfied with their jobs was down to 14 percent in 2001 from 23 percent in 1992. American workers, too, reported a drop in job satisfaction from the mid-1970's through the early 1990's, according to the General Social Survey by the University of Chicago. But the drop was mild, and since then, reported job satisfaction in the United States has inched up. In 1990, 48 percent of American workers said they were very satisfied with their work, and 51 percent said so in 2004.”
