Jacobs Avoiding Part-Timers Debate

"Nassau Presiding Officer Judy Jacobs has rejected a request by the local women's bar association to discuss the shaping of part-time work policies in the county, saying she won't wade into a ‘political minefield’ between the group and District Attorney Kathleen Rice… Rice created an uproar in June when she changed her predecessor's policy and told a dozen part-time attorneys in her office - many of them working mothers - either to quit or work full-time.”

"Ambition, fear of being fired, feeling indispensable and self-imposed getaway guilt all help to explain why workers do not use all of their vacation days and why many prefer to take respites that are shorter than two weeks, even if they have banked significantly more vacation time…A study released last year by the Families and Work Institute found that American workers have on average 16.6 paid vacation days but that more than one-third of employees (36 percent) did not plan to use their full vacation.” Mentions Ellen Galinsky.
