"Workplace conditions matter. When workers are unable to adequately meet family responsibilities because of their jobs, it threatens not only family well-being but also exacerbates national challenges ranging from elder care and an aging workforce to health care, school readiness, and school performance. Furthermore, there is a cost to the social fabric when work responsibilities overpower family responsibilities; this cost is born disproportionately by those who can least afford to bear it—low wage workers.”
