The Adventures of Professor Edelman

In this virtual program Dean William M. Treanor interviews Peter Edelman about his life and career. The conversation covers Professor Edelman’s lifelong work in the fight against poverty, his experiences working with Sen. Robert F. Kennedy, and other moments from his personal and professional journey.

Edelman serves as the Carmack Waterhouse Professor of Law and Public Policy and as Director of the Georgetown Center on Poverty and Inequality.

On faculty since 1982, he has served in all three branches of government. During President Clinton’s first term, Edelman was Counselor to Health and Human Services Secretary Donna Shalala and then Assistant Secretary for Planning and Evaluation. He was a Legislative Assistant to Senator Robert F. Kennedy and Issues Director for Senator Edward Kennedy’s Presidential campaign in 1980. Earlier, he was a Law Clerk to Supreme Court Justice Arthur J. Goldberg.
