This option is available even to students who have already used all seven credits. The Office of the Registrar will notify students when pass\/fail selection for spring courses is available online in GU Experience.<\/p>\n<p>If a student selects only one course for the pass\/fail option, it will not count against the seven-credit cap. If a student selects two classes for the pass\/fail option, the class selected first will count as the free pass\/fail election and the second one will be counted against the seven-credit cap.\u00a0 There is no maximum limit to the number of credits an individual course may have to be eligible for the pass\/fail option that does not count toward the seven-credit cap.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Both the Handbook-provided and additional pass\/fail option are subject to the following policy modifications:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Upperclass\u00a0JD\u00a0students\u00a0may\u00a0select\u00a0a\u00a0course\u00a0for\u00a0the\u00a0pass\/fail\u00a0option\u00a0and\u00a0designate\u00a0a target grade until the last day of classes, 5pm ET on Tuesday, May 4, 2021, and students may change prior elections before this\u00a0deadline.<\/li>\n<li>For courses for which all graded work is officially due before the last day of classes (such as many mini-courses and bookend courses) students may elect the pass\/fail option\u00a0and\u00a0target\u00a0grade\u00a0until\u00a0the\u00a0last day of class for the course.\u00a0 For mini-courses with exams, students may elect the pass\/fail option and target grade until the day before the final exam.<\/li>\n<li>A\u00a0grade\u00a0of\u00a0C-\u00a0or\u00a0D\u00a0will\u00a0count\u00a0as\u00a0a\u00a0passing\u00a0grade\u00a0when\u00a0the\u00a0pass\/fail\u00a0option\u00a0is\u00a0elected.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Two categories of courses that are ordinarily ineligible for the pass\/fail option under the Student Handbook are eligible for this treatment in Spring 2021:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Any course that meets the Professional Responsibility requirement;\u00a0and<\/li>\n<li>Courses for which the faculty member has elected not to make the pass\/fail option available,\u00a0as\u00a0indicated\u00a0in\u00a0the\u00a0\u201cCourse\u00a0Requirements\u201d\u00a0for\u00a0the\u00a0course\u00a0in\u00a0the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/curriculum.law.georgetown.edu\/course-search\/\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/curriculum.law.georgetown.edu\/course-search\/&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1605216452246000&amp;usg=AFQjCNEP9UaSQJXLGCJiz8709Gy-4XqwLg\">Curriculum Guide<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The pass\/fail option continues to be unavailable for the following categories of courses:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Courses in the required first-year program, including the first-year\u00a0elective;<\/li>\n<li>Upperclass legal writing requirement\u00a0seminars;<\/li>\n<li>Supervised Research\u00a0projects;<\/li>\n<li>Clinics;<\/li>\n<li>Law Center graduate (LL.M. and SJD) courses that are not cross-listed;\u00a0and<\/li>\n<li>For students pursuing a J.D.\/LL.M. joint degree, any courses that are considered \u201cspecialization\u00a0credits\u201d\u00a0pursuant\u00a0to\u00a0the\u00a0LL.M.\u00a0degree\u00a0requirements\u00a0(see\u00a0the\u00a0Graduate Programs chapter of the Student\u00a0Handbook).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The\u00a0other\u00a0rules\u00a0relating\u00a0to\u00a0the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.law.georgetown.edu\/academics\/academic-resources\/registrar\/academic-honors\/jd-passfail-policy\/\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/www.law.georgetown.edu\/academics\/academic-resources\/registrar\/academic-honors\/jd-passfail-policy\/&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1605216452247000&amp;usg=AFQjCNHUNl5aDTDNr3EW8VSVTwTRJHM3Dw\">pass\/fail\u00a0option<\/a>\u00a0remain\u00a0in\u00a0effect and unchanged.
