The joint J.D.\/LL.M. in National Security Law enables Georgetown students to think critically about national security law, work closely with faculty at the top of the field, and be at the center of the place where national security law and policy are made.<\/p>\n

Program Overview<\/h2>\n

The joint J.D.\/LL.M. in National Security Law program allows students who are completing their J.D. degree to take national security law courses that will count toward both the J.D. and the LL.M. in National Security Law. Students in the program can earn their J.D. and LL.M. degrees in 7 full-time semesters, or somewhat longer if completing the program on a part-time basis.<\/p>\n

Eligibility<\/h2>\n

The joint J.D.\/LL.M. in National Security Law is open to current Georgetown Law J.D. students.<\/p>\n

Due to course requirements of the LL.M. in National Security Law, students may only begin the post-J.D. portion of the joint degree program in the fall semester.<\/p>\n

Admissions<\/h2>\n

J.D. students must apply for admission<\/span>(This link opens in a new tab)<\/span><\/span><\/a> to the program at the end of their 2L\/3E year.<\/p>\n

The J.D.\/LL.M. in National Security Law is highly competitive, and only a select number of J.D. students will gain admission.<\/p>\n

Program Requirements<\/h2>\n

Students complete a total of 24 credits to earn the LL.M. in National Security Law.<\/p>\n

During J.D. studies, students complete 12 credits that will count towards the LL.M. in National Security Law. Students are expected to complete International Law I<\/span>(This link opens in a new tab)<\/span><\/span><\/a> (3 credits) during this time. 6 out of the remaining 9 credits must be qualifying National Security Law specialization credits.<\/p>\n

After completing the J.D. program, students transition to LL.M. students and complete the remaining 12 credits necessary to fulfill LL.M. in National Security Law program requirements. 9 out of the 12 credits must be qualifying National Security Law specialization credits, including:<\/p>\n
