Program<\/span><span class=\"visually_hide\">(This link opens in a new tab)<\/span><span class=\"cx_external_icon\"><\/span><\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.law.georgetown.edu\/academics\/llm-degree-programs\/national-security\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" class=\"cx_external_link\"><span class=\"cx_external_hyperlink\">LL.M. in National Security Law<\/span><span class=\"visually_hide\">(This link opens in a new tab)<\/span><span class=\"cx_external_icon\"><\/span><\/a> pages for program overviews of each degree.<\/p>\n<h2>Eligibility<\/h2>\n<p>The joint J.D.\/LL.M. in National Security Law is open to current Georgetown Law J.D. students.<\/p>\n<p>Due to course requirements of the LL.M. in National Security Law, students may only begin the post-J.D. portion of the joint degree program in the fall semester.<\/p>\n<h2>Admissions<\/h2>\n<p>J.D. students must <a href=\"https:\/\/www.law.georgetown.edu\/admissions-aid\/graduate-admissions\/joint-dual-degrees\/application-requirements\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" class=\"cx_external_link\"><span class=\"cx_external_hyperlink\">apply for admission<\/span><span class=\"visually_hide\">(This link opens in a new tab)<\/span><span class=\"cx_external_icon\"><\/span><\/a> to the program at the end of their 2L\/3E year.<\/p>\n<p>The J.D.\/LL.M. in National Security Law is highly competitive, and only a select number of J.D. students will gain admission.<\/p>\n<h2>Program Requirements<\/h2>\n<p>Students complete a total of 24 credits to earn the LL.M. in National Security Law.<\/p>\n<p>During J.D. studies, students complete 12 credits that will count towards the LL.M. in National Security Law. Students are expected to complete <a href=\"https:\/\/curriculum.law.georgetown.edu\/course-search\/?keyword=LAW%20235\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" class=\"cx_external_link\"><span class=\"cx_external_hyperlink\">International Law I<\/span><span class=\"visually_hide\">(This link opens in a new tab)<\/span><span class=\"cx_external_icon\"><\/span><\/a> (3 credits) during this time. 6 out of the remaining 9 credits must be qualifying National Security Law specialization credits.<\/p>\n<p>After completing the J.D. program, students transition to LL.M. students and complete the remaining 12 credits necessary to fulfill LL.M. in National Security Law program requirements. 9 out of the 12 credits must be qualifying National Security Law specialization credits, including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/curriculum.law.georgetown.edu\/course-search\/?keyword=LAW%202006\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" class=\"cx_external_link\"><span class=\"cx_external_hyperlink\">Proseminar in National Security Law<\/span><span class=\"visually_hide\">(This link opens in a new tab)<\/span><span class=\"cx_external_icon\"><\/span><\/a> (3 credits)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Students may complete the remaining 12 credits on a full-time or part-time basis.\u00a0Students are expected to complete the LL.M. program within two years of receiving their J.D. degree.<\/p>\n<p>The program requirements listed above should be used as a reference, and have been sourced from the Georgetown Law\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.law.georgetown.edu\/academics\/academic-resources\/registrar\/student-handbook\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" class=\"cx_external_link\"><span class=\"cx_external_hyperlink\">Student Handbook of Academic Policies<\/span><span class=\"visually_hide\">(This link opens in a new tab)<\/span><span class=\"cx_external_icon\"><\/span><\/a>.
