Facilitated by the Office of Public Interest and Community Service (OPICS), the program has helped launch the public interest legal careers of hundreds of Georgetown Law graduates.<\/em><\/p>\n<h3>Purpose<\/h3>\n<p>The Public Interest Law Scholars Program at Georgetown Law provides multidimensional support to a cohort of JD students demonstrating extraordinary commitment to pursuing a public interest career after graduation. Through a variety of carefully tailored program benefits, the program aims to reduce financial, informational, and other barriers to public service for students displaying an exceptional level of intentionality and potential to use their law degree as a tool for change. In doing so, the program also aims to support and empower a cohort of public interest scholars to serve as leaders and ambassadors for public interest work in the Georgetown Law community, cultivating an ethic of service and contributing to broader efforts to reduce barriers to public interest careers.<\/p>\n<h3><b>Benefits At-A-Glance<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Public Interest Law Scholars at Georgetown Law receive or have access to a variety of benefits, including:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Enhanced public interest summer funding and postgraduate bar stipends, helping to fill critical gaps in financial support for public interest students not already addressed by <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.law.georgetown.edu\/admissions-aid\/financial-aid\/loan-repayment-assistance-program\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Georgetown Law\u2019s nationally-recognized Loan Repayment Assistance Program (LRAP)<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> and the federal <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/studentaid.gov\/manage-loans\/repayment\/plans\/income-driven\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Income-Driven Repayment<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/studentaid.gov\/manage-loans\/forgiveness-cancellation\/public-service\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Public Service Loan Forgiveness<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> programs<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Public interest orientation designed to cultivate a strong sense of support and belonging from the start of the law school experience<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Faculty, practitioner, and peer mentorship support\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Enrollment during 2L fall in a public interest seminar featuring preeminent public interest leaders from the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.law.georgetown.edu\/academics\/jd-program\/scholars-fellowships-mentor-programs\/blume-public-interest-scholars-program\/leaders-in-residence-program\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Leaders in Residence Program<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> as guest speakers and mentors<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Eligibility to apply for earmarked public interest scholarships during 2L year<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Public interest community-building through automatic membership in <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.law.georgetown.edu\/your-life-career\/career-exploration-professional-development\/for-jd-students\/meet-the-teams\/office-of-public-interest-and-community-service\/public-interest-corps\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Georgetown Law\u2019s Public Interest Corps (PIC)<\/span><\/a> and various peer leadership opportunities<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">For additional details, see the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.law.georgetown.edu\/academics\/jd-program\/scholars-fellowships-mentor-programs\/blume-public-interest-scholars-program\/benefits\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Benefits<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> page.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 id=\"one\">Application and Selection<\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">In 2026-27, students will be able to apply for the Public Interest Law Scholars program during the spring semester of their 1L year.
