{"id":3663,"date":"2019-11-07T13:09:45","date_gmt":"2019-11-07T18:09:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.law.georgetown.edu\/academics\/jd-program\/scholars-fellowships-mentor-programs\/blume-public-interest-scholars-program\/benefits\/"},"modified":"2026-03-26T20:06:23","modified_gmt":"2026-03-26T20:06:23","slug":"benefits","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.law.georgetown.edu\/academics\/jd-program\/scholars-fellowships-mentor-programs\/blume-public-interest-scholars-program\/benefits\/","title":{"rendered":"Benefits"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Funding<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">To help fill <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">critical gaps in financial support for public interest students not already addressed by <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.law.georgetown.edu\/admissions-aid\/financial-aid\/loan-repayment-assistance-program\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Georgetown Law\u2019s nationally-recognized Loan Repayment Assistance Program (LRAP)<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> and the federal <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/studentaid.gov\/manage-loans\/repayment\/plans\/income-driven\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Income-Driven Repayment<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/studentaid.gov\/manage-loans\/forgiveness-cancellation\/public-service\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Public Service Loan Forgiveness<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> programs, Public Interest Law<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> Scholars will receive enhanced public interest summer funding. Public Interest Law Scholars going into public interest work will also receive postgraduate bar stipends.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Note: Effective 2024, the Public Interest Law Scholars Program no longer guarantees a full-tuition scholarship.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Mentorship<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Public Interest Law Scholars receive valuable mentorship and support from Georgetown Law faculty, practicing public interest attorneys, and peers including upper-level scholars within the program cohort.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Community, Programming, &amp; Events<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Throughout their time at Georgetown Law, Public Interest Law Scholars participate in a number of personally and professionally-enriching events, beginning with a public interest orientation designed to cultivate a strong sense of support and belonging from the start of the law school experience. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">As a supplement to the robust public interest career development programming provided by OPICS to students starting in their 1L year, Public Interest Law Scholars in their 2L year also participate in a public interest seminar featuring preeminent public interest leaders from the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.law.georgetown.edu\/academics\/jd-program\/scholars-fellowships-mentor-programs\/blume-public-interest-scholars-program\/opics-leaders-in-residence-program\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Leaders in Residence Program<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> as guest speakers and mentors.
