{"id":757,"date":"2024-01-23T12:04:39","date_gmt":"2024-01-23T17:04:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.law.georgetown.edu\/?page_id=470177"},"modified":"2026-03-26T20:06:14","modified_gmt":"2026-03-26T20:06:14","slug":"travel-grant","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.law.georgetown.edu\/academics\/courses-areas-study\/environmental-law\/travel-grant\/","title":{"rendered":"Environmental Law and Policy Program Travel Grant"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>What Expenses Can Be Covered?<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Domestic travel expenses (within the United States)<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Accommodation costs<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Conference registration fees<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>What Types of Participation Are Covered?<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Active Participation: presenting papers or posters, or speaking on a panel (attending purely as participant is not covered)<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Environmental Purpose: presenting at an environmental event or presenting a paper on an environmental topic at any event<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Law or Policy Related: either the paper or the event must have a strong law\/policy focus<\/span><\/li>\n<li>Unfortunately we cannot cover participation in political activities, including protests, campaigning, lobbying, etc.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>Who Is Eligible?<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Current J.D., LL.M. or S.J.D. students<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Unfortunately we cannot consider applications from undergraduates or alumni<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>Sustainability Commitment<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">:\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In compliance with our sustainability goals, we discourage air travel when possible.\u00a0 If the destination can be reached via train or other land transportation without excessive hardship, such an option will be required.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Grant Details<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">:<\/span><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">2 grants awarded per year<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Maximum of $500 each, based on actual expenses<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Note that the student will be responsible for any tax liability associated with receipt of this grant<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>How to Apply<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">:<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Submit your proposals and estimated budgets to the Environmental Law and Policy Program Director, Lydia Slobodian, at <\/span><a href=\"mailto:lns27@georgetown.edu\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" class=\"cx_external_link\"><span class=\"cx_external_hyperlink\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">lns27@georgetown.edu<\/span><\/span><span class=\"visually_hide\">(This link opens in a new tab)<\/span><span class=\"cx_external_icon\"><\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You Should Include:<\/span><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Official invitation to participate in the event as speaker or presenter (e.g. copy of email)<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Abstract or outline of paper, presentation or panel<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Proposed schedule and travel budget<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You should submit your request at least 1 month prior to the proposed date of travel.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>What Expenses Can Be Covered?
