{"id":3979,"date":"2017-06-22T09:29:27","date_gmt":"2017-06-22T13:29:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.law.georgetown.edu\/admissions-aid\/financial-aid\/loan-repayment-assistance-program\/"},"modified":"2026-03-18T15:49:02","modified_gmt":"2026-03-18T15:49:02","slug":"loan-repayment-assistance-program","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.law.georgetown.edu\/admissions-aid\/financial-aid\/loan-repayment-assistance-program\/","title":{"rendered":"Loan Repayment Assistance Program"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>SAVE BORROWERS\u2013 we haven\u2019t advised anyone to switch out of the SAVE plan.<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>The SAVE forbearance is expected to remain until mid-2026 unless a court decision speeds up the timeline.\u00a0 While this time is not automatically counting for PSLF, the Department of Education will count it under the <a href=\"https:\/\/studentaid.gov\/manage-loans\/forgiveness-cancellation\/public-service\/public-service-loan-forgiveness-buyback\">Buyback Program<\/a>.\u00a0 Once you cross the 120th month\u00a0you submit the request.\u00a0 The Department will calculate\u00a0the payments due (it will be based on the lower of the payments at the start OR at the end of the forbearance), and LRAP will assist with the payments based upon your income-determined coverage level.<\/p>\n<p>Do NOT make any unscheduled payments on your loans since they are in a forbearance and will not be covered by LRAP.\u00a0 Please hold on to any LRAP funds that we&#8217;ve provided for the July \u2013 December 2024 term since they will be recalculated.<\/p>\n<p>We are currently leaving everyone in an active status for LRAP unless you let us know you are no longer in your approved LRAP position.\u00a0 We are watching this development very closely and we will reach out once you need to take action.\u00a0 We will let you know what IDR plan to select, and when to reapply for LRAP.
