August 21-25, 2017
The Georgetown University Law Center 2017 Juris Doctor Orientation Program is presented by the Office of the Dean of Students (ODOS) and Office of Student Life (OSL).
The 2017 J.D. Orientation program will introduce you to Georgetown Law, your classmates, the faculty, and the legal profession. Orientation Week includes registration and other mandatory section sessions, as well as several optional social events, public service projects, and faculty presentations.
We look forward to welcoming you as a new member of our community in August!
A current master schedule for the week will give you an overview of the mandatory events for all incoming J.D. students, as well as any optional events.
As we approach Orientation Week, details of the schedule may vary slightly so you will want to check back occasionally.
Consistent with Georgetown Law's longstanding commitment to social justice and public service, we have arrange several public service projects for each section scheduled for Monday or Tuesday of Orientation Week. The projects involve activities such as working at a local food bank, visiting The Armed Forces Retirement Home (AFRH), and volunteering at the National Arboretum.
In addition to helping communities in need, these projects are a great opportunity to get to know some of your classmates before the first day of school.
Registration for the Service Projects will begin on August 7th at 12pm (EST). Invitations to register will be sent to your Georgetown University email.
On Thursday, August 24, you will have the opportunity to get to know some of our distinguished faculty, who will offer a series of Faculty Tours of sites of legal and cultural interest around Washington, D.C.
Registration for the Faculty Tours are limited by space constraints and require advance registration on a first-come, first-enrolled basis. Please refer to Dean Bailin's introduction email for information about registering.
Registration for the Faculty Tours will begin on August 7th at 12pm (EST). Invitations to register will be sent to your Georgetown University email. Note: Registration is limited to one Faculty Tour per student. Should you register for more than one Faculty Tour, you will be automatically assigned to one of the Faculty Tours selected.
Along with the Faculty Tours, you will also have the opportunity to get to know faculty members through a series of talks. The Faculty Talks are open to all first-year students on a drop-in basis; you need not sign up ahead of time.
