In 1999, an international protest erupted in response to an Italian Supreme Court decision in which a rape conviction was overturned because the victim was wearing tight jeans. Though the case occurred years ago, this horrific crime and rationale is all too common today. For this reason, the Georgetown Law community commemorates today as its 9th annual Denim Day to raise awareness about rape culture and victim-blaming that can occur when survivors speak up. Today, we remember those affected by sexual assault.
