{"id":1009,"date":"2017-07-11T11:20:55","date_gmt":"2017-07-11T15:20:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.law.georgetown.edu\/experiential-learning\/clinics\/appellate-litigation-clinic\/graduate-teaching-fellowships\/"},"modified":"2025-12-01T18:19:19","modified_gmt":"2025-12-01T18:19:19","slug":"graduate-teaching-fellowships-7","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.law.georgetown.edu\/experiential-learning\/clinics\/our-clinics\/appellate-litigation-clinic\/graduate-teaching-fellowships-7\/","title":{"rendered":"Graduate Teaching Fellowships"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em><u>Clinic and Fellowship Overview<\/u><\/em><\/p>\n<p>The Appellate Litigation Clinic at Georgetown Law seeks applicants for a two-year fellowship in appellate advocacy. \u00a0Working in collaboration with the Clinic Director, the fellow will take the lead on litigating public-interest appeals before federal courts of appeals and, on occasion, the U.S. Supreme Court. \u00a0The clinic accepts appointments to represent indigent clients in appeals that address a broad range of issues, including civil rights, criminal defense, habeas, and immigration. \u00a0The fellow will work on all aspects of an appeal and will supervise student teams in a collaborative learning environment. \u00a0The fellow will also have the opportunity to argue at least one case before a federal appellate court. \u00a0Former fellows have gone on to pursue careers in appellate advocacy, civil rights impact litigation, criminal defense, and academia.<\/p>\n<p>The clinic is comprised of Professor Erica Hashimoto, the clinic director; two graduate teaching fellows; and sixteen third-year full-time or fourth-year evening students.\u00a0 Students participate in the clinic for the full year (both fall and spring semesters).\u00a0 The fellow will serve as a supervising attorney to two or three student teams each year and will work closely with students to improve their written and oral advocacy throughout the appeal.\u00a0 The fellow may also co-supervise cases with the director or the other clinic fellow.\u00a0 Fellows may also be asked to handle cases that are held over from previous years.<\/p>\n<p>Mentorship and collaboration are important aspects of the Appellate Litigation Clinic experience.\u00a0 The fellow will assist student attorneys as they transition from being law students to student attorneys.\u00a0 Fellows also jointly teach (with the director) a weekly seminar that explores many aspects of appellate advocacy, client-centered lawyering, and professional responsibility.<\/p>\n<p><em><u>Application Instructions and Requirements<\/u><\/em><\/p>\n<p>Applications will be considered on a rolling basis.\u00a0 We encourage applications from those with a commitment to public-interest law, demonstrated interest in appellate litigation, and enthusiasm for clinical legal education.\u00a0 Candidates should have at least one year of relevant experience beyond the J.D. degree (e.g., clerkship, government, or private practice) and membership in a state bar.<\/p>\n<p>Interested persons should apply by submitting their applications electronically via the <a href=\"https:\/\/apply.interfolio.com\/178057\">Interfolio portal. <\/a><\/p>\n<p>Your application should consist of a:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>cover letter<\/li>\n<li>resume,<\/li>\n<li>writing sample,<\/li>\n<li>official law school transcript, and<\/li>\n<li>list of at least three references.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The cover letter should be addressed to:<\/p>\n<p>Professor Erica J.
