Graduate law students may find externship opportunities in the TIP\/Symplicity Database of Pre-Approved Externship Opportunities<\/span>(This link opens in a new tab)<\/span><\/span><\/a> or independently identify a placement. Students should complete the externship employer\u2019s application process then, upon acceptance, complete the application to enroll in the externship course.<\/p>\n

Students may wish to review <\/span>Student Externship Evaluations<\/span><\/span>(This link opens in a new tab)<\/span><\/span><\/a> from prior semesters.<\/span><\/p>\n

How to Enroll<\/h2>\n

  1. After <\/span><\/i>securing a placement with an eligible organization students should submit the <\/span>Graduate Externship Application Form<\/span>(This link opens in a new tab)<\/span><\/span><\/a>.<\/li>\n
  2. Students should share the Supervision Agreement<\/span>(This link opens in a new tab)<\/span><\/span><\/a> with their externship supervisor. The agreement must be signed by the supervisor and may be submitted by the supervisor or student via the <\/span>Google Form for uploading a signed Supervision Agreement<\/span><\/span>(This link opens in a new tab)<\/span><\/span><\/a>. If you encounter issues uploading the Supervision Agreement document please email a signed copy to <\/span>lawllmexternship@georgetown.edu<\/span><\/span>(This link opens in a new tab)<\/span><\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/li>\n
  3. F-1 students must indicate their visa status in the Graduate Externship Application Form. The International Student Advisor will review the Graduate Externship Application Form and Supervision Agreement upon receipt. Students must wait for the International Student Advisor to approve the Curricular Practical Training (CPT) and may not begin fieldwork until CPT is granted.<\/span><\/li>\n
  4. After the Graduate Externship Application Form and Supervision Agreement are submitted students will receive an approval email from <\/span>lawllmexternship@georgetown.edu<\/span><\/span>(This link opens in a new tab)<\/span><\/span><\/a> with instructions explaining how to enroll in the externship seminar via GU Experience. The seminar is mandatory and students must enroll to earn academic credit.<\/span><\/li>\n
  5. After students are enrolled in the externship seminar, they will receive the <\/span>Graduate Externship Credit Confirmation Form <\/b>from <\/span>lawllmexternship@gmail.com<\/span><\/span>(This link opens in a new tab)<\/span><\/span><\/a>. Students must confirm via the form that the correct section of the externship seminar and number of credits (two or three) appears in their course schedule.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Please note, upon accepting an externship offer from an organization, students must withdraw their applications from all other organizations. It is in violation of the policies in the <\/b>Georgetown Law Student Handbook<\/b><\/span>(This link opens in a new tab)<\/span><\/span><\/a> regarding student conduct in the job search process for a student to continue to interview with other employers after accepting an offer to extern.<\/b><\/p>\n

    Summer 2026 Dates and Deadlines<\/b><\/h3>\n

    The Graduate Externship Application Form and the Supervision Agreement are due<\/b> no later than Friday, May 15, 2026 at 12:00 p.m.<\/span><\/p>\n

    Students should begin fieldwork, upon receiving all necessary approvals, between<\/b> May 20, 2026 and August 5, 2026. The last day to complete fieldwork hours will be August 5, 2026 at 5:00 p.m.<\/span><\/p>\n

    The<\/b> Graduate Externship Reflection Memo must be submitted <\/b>no later than Wednesday, August 12, 2026 at 5:00 p.m.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
