{"id":17733,"date":"2025-01-29T18:40:26","date_gmt":"2025-01-29T18:40:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.law.georgetown.edu\/experiential-learning\/event\/no-we-dont-live-in-a-fing-simulation\/"},"modified":"2025-03-07T20:45:22","modified_gmt":"2025-03-07T20:45:22","slug":"no-we-dont-live-in-a-fing-simulation","status":"publish","type":"tribe_events","link":"https:\/\/www.law.georgetown.edu\/experiential-learning\/event\/no-we-dont-live-in-a-fing-simulation\/","title":{"rendered":"No, We Don\u2019t Live In A F%#*ing Simulation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">We are excited to announce that we are once again running our infamous mini-course,<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.law.georgetown.edu\/privacy-technology-center\/events\/no-we-dont-live-in-a-fing-simulation\/\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400\">No, We Don\u2019t Live in A F%#*ing Simulation<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, and this time it\u2019s in person!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">This seminar breaks down, and takes down, three pseudo-philosophical concepts of the digital era which are increasingly appearing in tech company propaganda: the simulation hypothesis, long-termism, and artificial general intelligence (AGI).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The course will be co-taught by<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/independent.academia.edu\/DavidMcNeill16\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400\">David N. McNeill<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, a philosopher and former professor at the University of Essex and Deep Springs College, and Emily Tucker, the Privacy Center\u2019s Executive Director.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">You can read <a href=\"https:\/\/www.law.georgetown.edu\/privacy-technology-center\/events\/no-we-dont-live-in-a-fing-simulation\/\">the full course description<\/a><\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400\">and <a href=\"https:\/\/medium.com\/center-on-privacy-technology\/i-was-a-student-in-nwdliafs-heres-what-you-missed-cc2f13bfcbf6\">a blog about it<\/a><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. This time the seminar will be in person, hosted at Georgetown Law Center on Friday, March 7. It will be an all day event, with breakfast and lunch included.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The seminar is free and open to everyone (you do not have to be a Georgetown student or a student at all!), but there is a very short <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/forms\/d\/1V2zcjMvaPl7g0ti4rkmftyGxWxLj1yfVW2voeYirRIA\/edit\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">application<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. Enrollment is limited to 35, so please only sign up if you are prepared to do the readings and participate actively in discussions.
