Stephen B. Bright is Professor of Practice at Georgia State College of Law, as well as a visiting lecturer at Yale Law School and visiting professor of law at Georgetown.  He spent 35 years at the Southern Center for Human Rights in Atlanta, first as director for 22 years and then as president and senior counsel through 2016.  He has tried capital cases to juries in Alabama, Georgia and Mississippi and argued and won four capital cases before the Supreme Court.  Subjects of his litigation, teaching and writings include capital punishment, legal representation of poor people accused of crimes, racial discrimination, conditions and practices in prisons and jails, and judicial independence.  He received the American Bar Association's Thurgood Marshall Award in 1998.
