Professor McKee has been engaged in the private practice of intellectual property law for over 24 years. He earned his Juris Doctor from the National Law Center of George Washington University in 1988, and his Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering from Iowa State University in 1983.

Professor McKee is a principal shareholder of Banner & Witcoff, Ltd. in its Washington, DC office, and has been with the firm since 1991. Over the course of his career, Professor McKee has gained a wealth of experience in patent litigation and licensing matters, as well as patent prosecution, with a technological focus in the mechanical and electrical/computer arts. Professor McKee has considerable expertise with respect to patent reexaminations, and has recently published several articles on the subject.  Professor McKee’s practice includes post-grant patent trial proceedings before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board of the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office. He chaired his firm’s New Attorney Education program from 2003 – 2009, and remains active as a presenter in that program.

Professor McKee is admitted to the bars of Virginia and the District of Columbia, and to practice before the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit and the Supreme Court of the United States. Professor McKee began his career in intellectual property law with the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office, where he served as a patent examiner from 1984-86.
