David Tolbert is a highly experienced international human rights lawyer who currently serves as the Registrar of the UN Special Tribunal for Lebanon (STL). Prior to this, Mr. Tolbert was a visiting scholar at Sanford School of Public Policy at Duke University (North Carolina). He was formerly president of the International Center for Transitional Justice (ICTJ) in New York for many years and served as Deputy Chief Prosecutor of the UN International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia as well as Deputy Registrar. He also worked as the Registrar of the Special Tribunal for Lebanon at an earlier stage, as a Senior Fellow at the United States Institute of Peace, and as Executive Director for the Central European and Eurasian Law Initiative of the American Bar Association. Tolbert has written dozens of articles and book chapters. He has a B.A. magna cum laude from Furman University, a J.D. from the University of North Carolina and an LL.M. with distinction in International Law from the University of Nottingham.
