Professor Figueroa is an attorney licensed in Chile, New York, D.C., the U.S. Supreme Court, and the U.S. Court of International Trade. He is also an Adjunct Professor at the Washington College of Law where he teaches Business Transactions in Latin America and Latin American Law. He practiced law for over a decade in Chile in the public and private sectors. In the public sector, he served as general counsel for two cities and for the regional branch of a government agricultural development agency, and as a staff attorney for the Chilean Agency for International Cooperation. In the private sector, he worked as an associate with Grasty Quintana Majlis & Cia., a leading Chilean law firm, focusing his practice on international business transactions in the areas of infrastructure, mining, machine manufacturing, toll road concessions, communications, aquaculture, agricultural exports, energy, and real estate. Professor Figueroa also served as in house counsel for the Chilean branches of two multinational corporations. He has also been a consultant with the Center for International Environmental Law, the Environmental Law Institute, and Muñoz Investment Banking Group, LLC. in Washington, D.C. He has also authored multiple articles on comparative civil and common law issues, international business, arbitration, constitutional law, and philosophy of law. He has authored five books, two of which have received awards from the Inter-American Bar Association. Professor Figueroa is fluent in Spanish, English, French, Italian, and has a basic understanding of German. He is currently a Senior Legal Information Analyst at the Law Library of Congress.
