Rabbi Fishman has been the religious leader of Ohr Kodesh Congregation in Chevy Chase, Maryland for over thirty years. Previously, he was rabbi at Greenburgh Hebrew Center in Dobbs Ferry, New York. He has been an instructor and teacher of Jewish texts and Hebrew language at Ohr Kodesh Congregation, the Foundation for Jewish Studies, the Herzl Institute of New York, and The Jewish Theological Seminary of America.
In 1973, Rabbi Fishman graduated magna cum laude from Yale University with honors in religious studies. He spent his junior year at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem. Rabbi Fishman received his MHL and rabbinical ordination from The Jewish Theological Seminary of America in 1977. From 2002-2005, he participated in the Shalom Hartman Institute for Rabbinic Leadership in Jerusalem, a select program of continuing education for rabbis, where he was valedictorian.
Rabbi Fishman was the founder and first president of the Westchester-Rockland (NY) region of The Rabbinical Assembly of America. He also served two terms on the Executive Committee and as president of the Baltimore-Washington region. He has been involved as a board member and co-chair of Super Sunday at the Jewish Federation of Greater Washington.
