B.S., Spring Hill College; five honorary degrees. Professor McCarthy, author of five books on social justice, is a journalist whose column ran in The Washington Post from 1969 to 1997. He is the founder and director of the Center for Teaching Peace, and has been teaching courses on nonviolence since 1982 at some half-dozen schools in Washington, and at Georgetown Law since 1986.
