Professor Harris’ practice focuses primarily on information technology licensing. He has extensive experience counseling clients in high-tech, software and Internet industries regarding the structuring and negotiation of their technology-related deals and commercial exploitation of their intellectual property assets, including broad international experience involving deals in Asia, Latin America and throughout Europe. His practice regularly involves negotiating and drafting enterprise software licensing agreements and SaaS contracts, technology development agreements, IT outsourcing agreements, VAR and OEM agreements and other distribution/reseller agreements, database and content licensing agreements, Web site hosting agreements, co-location agreements and privacy policies. Professor Harris is also involved in counseling university clients regarding technology transfer and spin-out licensing arrangements. Following law school, Professor Harris clerked for the Honorable William M. Acker, Jr., U.S. District Judge for the Northern District of Alabama. Prior to law school, Professor Harris studied philosophy and theology in Germany, first as an undergraduate at the Karls-Eberhard Universität in Tübingen and later as a graduate fellow in philosophy at the Goethe-Universität, Frankfurt am Main. Prior to joining Womble, Professor Harris was an attorney in the Reston, Virginia office of Cooley LLP, and an associate in the Washington, D.C. office of Debevoise & Plimpton. Professor Harris is a member of the Virginia State Bar.
