{"id":23950,"date":"2025-10-10T10:47:38","date_gmt":"2025-10-10T14:47:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.law.georgetown.edu\/georgetown-law-journal\/symposia\/2025-symposium-2\/"},"modified":"2025-10-31T12:06:49","modified_gmt":"2025-10-31T16:06:49","slug":"2025-symposium","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.law.georgetown.edu\/georgetown-law-journal\/symposia\/2025-symposium\/","title":{"rendered":"2025 Symposium"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Georgetown Law Journal<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> is hosting its Volume 114 Symposium on \u201cThe Labor Movement and Civil Rights in the Modern Era.\u201d Workers are encountering a series of major setbacks\u2014including, but not limited to, executive orders banning DEI initiatives, erosion of discrimination protections, a hostile and underfunctioning NLRB, and mass terminations of federal employees\u2014challenging workers\u2019 rights in both the private and public sectors. <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">GLJ\u2019s<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> symposium will focus on the state of the labor movement as navigating a series of civil rights issues and will highlight this moment in history as a means to consider worker rights beyond traditional protections. When legal protections are eroded, how can workers and advocates respond? This symposium seeks to answer that question with a look to history, an analysis of the present, and a reimagination of future labor advocacy.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The Symposium will be held on October 24, 2025 on 111 Massachusetts Ave NW (Lower Lobby), and will entail a full day of conversation with four robust panels and a keynote address by the incredible <a href=\"https:\/\/gufaculty360.georgetown.edu\/s\/contact\/0031Q00002beYkLQAU\/heather-steffen\">Professor Heather Steffen<\/a>.
