One way the Law Center exercises this commitment is through the Spring Break Immigrant Rights Pro-Bono Advocacy Trip. Each year, Georgetown partners with immigrant rights organizations by sending a team of 8-12 students to undertake important, client-based work in various communities across the country. In past years, Georgetown has partnered with Proyecto Dilley and ProBAR helping women and families detained by ICE in Texas, and with Al Otro Lado in San Diego as well as in Tijuana, Mexico, delivering Know Your Rights presentations and assisting in litigation efforts. Last Spring, the team went to Miami to support Americans for Immigrant Justice in naturalization clinics and in a juvenile detention facility.<\/p>\n
The trip focuses on providing substantive legal services to immigrant communities in the United States over Spring Break. Once the details of the trip are established, the leadership team will release an application form through the HRI newsletter and advertising bulletins on the Capitol Campus the first week of October, so check back here for updates if you are interested. Applicants should expect to write a letter of interest to apply.<\/p>\n
Applicants who speak a second language other than English will be given preference. Reasonable travel, lodging, and related expenses of participating in the program will be covered.
