Weekes"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>John Weekes<\/strong> is a Canadian international trade diplomat and negotiator who played a central role in the development of North American and multilateral trade policy. He served as Canada\u2019s Chief NAFTA Negotiator from 1991 to 1993, helping lead the negotiations that established the North American Free Trade Agreement. He subsequently served as Senior Assistant Deputy Minister for U.S. Affairs at Canada\u2019s Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade and as Canada\u2019s Ambassador to the World Trade Organization in Geneva from 1995 to 1999. Following his government service, Weekes served as a senior advisor at Sidley Austin and a senior business advisor at Bennett Jones, advising clients on international trade policy.
