And years later it was David who convinced me to follow him as the U.S.-nominated member of the Organization of American States Inter-American Juridical Committee. There, his shoes proved too big to fill, given the honor and fondness with which committee members remembered (and valued) his work. In short, David has been the model of the practicing international lawyer, focused on identifying ideas from protecting the rights of children to harmonizing electronic warehouse receipts, and he has done it while maintaining a vast array of close connections and expert networks across the globe. I can only imagine the legacy of his teaching, but if it is anything like his other work, I know it must be exemplary in all respects.
